Introduction
Null Hypothesis and The Research Hypothesis
-
Brief description of the study including the purpose and importance of the research question being asked.
The decrease in racial and gender inequality at work has improved the financial performance of the corporate world. Racial and gender inequality is based on discrimination of employees, partners and even the distribution and marketing channels to be used by corporate firms. The purpose of the research is not to focus on racial and gender equality but equity ( Glenn, 2002). This is in terms of equitable distribution of opportunities, resources and income to people of different races and gender without any form of discrimination or bias.
The importance of the research questions is to show the practical aspect of equity in the corporate world. The ease of equitable distribution and the benefits that it reaps and at the same time the drawbacks of discrimination (Grebe, 2007). The research questions will be based on the output per worker, the motivation they get from the treatment they are awarded and how this affects efficiency and competence at work.
-
What is the null hypothesis? What is the research hypothesis?
The null hypothesis is: racial and gender inequality at work has no effect on the performance of firms in the corporate world.
The research hypothesis is: Decrease in racial and gender inequality at work has improved the financial performance of the corporate world.
-
Participants/Sampling Method: Describe your sampling method. What is your sample size? Who is your population of interest? How representative is the sample of the population under study?
Systematic sampling will be used in this research. This will be done in the following steps
- The number of corporate firms within a thirty miles radius will be selected. All the firms are required by law to submit annual performance and employee report to the county’s administrative office (Grebe, 2007). This will be where all the information will be acquired from.
- The research will be dealing with firms in different industries after the firms have been picked. Their performance within the last twenty years will be analyzed. This marks a period where differences were embraced in the corporate world completely.
- From each firm, a random sample of employees will be picked and analyzed, however, this random sample is not allowed to exceed 25 employees per firm.
- The population of interest will be the middle management and subordinate employees in the firms. The executive management team and board of governors will not be of any major interest in the research (Tomaskovic-Devey, 1993).
- The sample will be expected to be made up of employees of both genders and there should be a relative representation of most of the races. The majority is always known to have a bigger share and the minority a smaller share so this will be an expected representation of the sample population. In this case, white and male employees are the majority while women, African American, Latin American and other races will be the minority (Glenn, 2002).
-
Data Analysis: Describe the statistical analysis. What are the requirements of the t-test? What is your IV? What is your DV? What level of measurement is your IV and DV? What is your alpha level?
The samples are independent because the results and analysis of one sample have completely no effect on those of another sample. The requirements for a sample are that it should be a maximum of 25 employees a minimum of 20 employees from one firm. The corporate firms have been identified to be 10 within the designated geographical area.
The independent variable is the gender and racial inequality; the measurement level will be in terms of the diversity in the employees, the distribution of opportunities and resources and the criteria used for rewarding employees (Grebe, 2007). The dependent variable is the financial performance of the firms. It will be measured by analyzing the changes in the sales volume, revenue and profit margin over the years.
The correlation between the changes in the structure and composition of employees and the changes in the performance will be established by the use of probability distribution (Tomaskovic-Devey, 1993). This will include calculation of the standard deviation, the population of the area, the z-score and the t-score.
The alpha level or the level of significance to be used in this case will be 0.04; this is the same as a confidence level of 96%.
-
Results & Discussion: Did you reject the null hypothesis? What information did you use to lead you to your conclusion? Was your observed p-value greater than or less than your alpha? How do you interpret the findings? NOTE: You can just make up numbers, but include your made-up p-value.
The results indicated that within a period of the last 20 years the structure and composition of employment has drastically changed and embraced the diversity in the society (Grebe, 2007). The ratio between the men and women in the corporate world has changed from 8:2 to 6:4 respectively. The racial distribution ratio for whites, African American and Latin American was 8:1.5:0.5 but has changed to 4.5:3.5:2.
The corporate firms have expanded in terms of employees and production capacity. In the last twenty years, the firms have on average increased from 80 employees to 350 employees for small and medium-sized firms and 200 to 500 employees for large size corporations (Tomaskovic-Devey, 1993). This has led to average increases varying between 11% – 43% increases in revenue and profit margins over the last year. The shares of the firms increase and the value of the firm and the brand name increase as well.
