It is clear from above that this institution is competitive enough compared to other organizations in this community. It has gained a competitive advantage and hence it has become the chief provider of the above services.
The south medical center is believed especially by the elderly people that it offers the best services; these people have gained trust in this medical center making it strong since it cannot miss customers at any given moment. This center has also been recognized by receiving a Baldrige Center of Excellence evaluation, the Joint Commission (T.J.C.) approving the quality of its services.
There is a strong correlation between what the medical center is offering and the problems it is facing. For instance, the center is providing medical care services to its customers and then we are told that it has a problem with information technology, shortage in the clinical staff an infrastructure. This means that if this is happening, then the quality of services offered to the customers will be low hence a negative correlation.
In the process of striving to offer the best for its customers, the south medical center is undergoing several problems. They include a shortage of nurses, proper and adequate information technology systems, inadequate infrastructure, the decline in the TJC strategy, noncompliance with the internal audits and also the shift to the financial mix strategy.
With reference to the quality of services offered, problems arising from inadequate nurses, infrastructure, lack of enough medical technologists, will relate negatively.
Opportunity to the Community South Medical Center
In any business organization, it is very crucial to identify the business opportunity to venture in when for example things change. In our case here, there is a constant market for the south medical center since it is dealing with elderly people. There is also a constant supply of physicians ready to serve elderly people.
In this case, an opportunity for the south medical center discussed above has a positive relationship to the quality of the services they offer to the community. Above all, it will enable this business to make a profit since most customers are attracted to the quality of the services it offers to the patients in that community of the south.
These are the elements in an organization which can cause trouble in a project. In this case, the south medical center faces a threat from the small business. Its market share is also reducing since they are now serving a few people who are the elderly ones. The organization is not currently in line with the standards of TJC. It is declining in terms of its performance day by day and this might result to collapse of the center at any moment.
A threat will impact negatively on the performance of any business. In our case, the south medical center faces many challenges discussed above. The quality of its services will thus be affected negatively if these challenges persist without looking for their effective remedy.
Should the organization change its strategic planning?
As the chief executive officer of the community south medical center, I would recommend that we should change the review of our strategic plans to an annual basis, Bryson, J. M. (2011). The review of these plans has many remedies which include;
- It gives an organization better and reliable control over its external factors
- It will serve as a tool for decision making and also the allocation of resources
- It brings people together and makes them have one wavelength
- It enables the board members to be aware of current issues and trends within its operations
- To motivate and reawaken major people within an organization
- To increase morale within the business and develop a sense of trust and cohesion
- To relate the organizational capacity and the community at large.
As a new CEO, it will be health to face the challenges as they come by issues confronting the community south medical center. A good CEO is the one who faces a challenge and looks for the best remedy immediately and not postponing issues. Problems of hiring more nurses, improving on technological usage, transport, hiring of a more respiratory therapist and many more should be given attention to.
This is because they are the key elements to the success of the community south medical center. Without proper medical nurses, highly qualified therapists, good and effective use of information technology and many more, the medial center will be doomed totally.
Mission: To improve on the quality of services offered by community South medical center through;
- Hiring more clinical staff, respiratory therapists, and medical technologists within one year.
- Ensuring that strategies of having an interfacing information technology system, having good infrastructural facilities within the medical center are completed within a period of twelve months.
- A strategy to improve in T.J.C which is compliant to the internal audits and a shift to the financial mix action is completed within a year.
Leadership positions in my management team include the following positions: chief operations officer, chief technology officer, chief financial officer, chief visionary officer, and the chief information officer, Buchbinder, S. B., Shanks (2014). Their responsibilities are looking at issues relating to marketing, production and sales, reporting directly to the CEO on scientific issues needed to run the institution, analyzing the financial data, reporting of financial performance to the CEO, advises the CEO and other C-level executives and reporting to the CEO on matters relating to information in IT fields so as to maintain platforms for new applicants respectively.
